Udikast SR 450 Tablets Udikast SR 450 contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA, Ursodiol) in a sustained-release formulation. Ursodeoxycholic Acid is a naturally occurring secondary bile acid that acts by expanding the hydrophilic bile acid pool while competitively displacing endogenous, hepatotoxic hydrophobic bile salts. UDCA decreases hepatic cholesterol secretion into bile, lowering biliary cholesterol saturation and promoting the gradual dissolution of radiolucent cholesterol gallstones. Furthermore, it exhibits cytoprotective, anti-apoptotic, immunomodulatory, and choleretic properties by stabilizing hepatocyte and cholangiocyte membranes against bile-salt-induced injury and stimulating vesicular exocytosis. Udikast SR 450 is indicated for the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), dissolution of radiolucent, non-calcified gallstones in patients with a functioning gallbladder, prevention of gallstone formation in obese patients undergoing rapid weight loss, and supportive management of chronic cholestatic liver diseases.
