MYFOCEPT-S 180 Tablets MYFOCEPT-S 180 contains Mycophenolate Sodium, an enteric-coated prodrug of mycophenolic acid (MPA). Mycophenolic acid is a potent, selective, uncompetitive, and reversible inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), a key rate-limiting enzyme in the de novo pathway of guanosine nucleotide synthesis. Because T- and B-lymphocytes rely almost entirely on the de novo pathway for purine biosynthesis—unlike other cells that can utilize salvage pathways—MPA exerts a potent cytostatic effect on T- and B-cell proliferation. This suppresses antibody production, decreases lymphocyte recruitment to sites of inflammation, and inhibits allograft rejection. The enteric coating delivers mycophenolate sodium directly to the small intestine to minimize upper gastrointestinal adverse effects. MYFOCEPT-S 180 is indicated in combination with cyclosporine and corticosteroids for the prophylaxis of acute organ rejection in adult patients receiving allogeneic renal transplants.
