Tafnat Tablets Tafnat contains Tenofovir Alafenamide, a targeted prodrug of tenofovir that offers enhanced intracellular delivery to hepatocytes and peripheral blood mononuclear cells compared to older formulations. Intracellularly, tenofovir alafenamide is converted to tenofovir and subsequently phosphorylated to the active metabolite, tenofovir diphosphate. Tenofovir diphosphate competes with natural substrates to inhibit viral reverse transcriptase and viral DNA polymerase, resulting in DNA chain termination and blocking viral replication. Tafnat is indicated for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults and adolescents with compensated liver disease, as well as in combination regimens for HIV-1 infection.
