TEMIRAZER Tablets TEMIRAZER is a fixed-dose dual antiretroviral combination comprising Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor) and Emtricitabine (a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor). Following cellular uptake, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is converted to tenofovir diphosphate and emtricitabine is phosphorylated to emtricitabine triphosphate. Both active metabolites competitively inhibit HIV-1 reverse transcriptase by incorporating into nascent viral DNA, resulting in DNA chain termination and disruption of viral replication. TEMIRAZER is indicated in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection, or alone as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV-1 infection in high-risk individuals.
