It acts by intercalating between DNA base pairs, inhibiting the enzymatic activity of Topoisomerase II, and generating free radicals that induce DNA strand breaks and lipid peroxidation. These mechanisms prevent DNA replication, RNA synthesis, and cell division in rapidly proliferating malignant cells. It is widely used in chemotherapy regimens for various cancers, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, bladder cancer, acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, and soft tissue or bone sarcomas.
